At approximately 6pm on Sunday evenings, a trend arises from the depths of social media chatter, dinner gatherings, and distant phone exchanges. Yet another breather has reached its end while our friends and family prepare, sulking in preparation. Yes, Monday is upon us (again), the beginning of a five-day excursion into the work week. Artist Jill Scott's song, "Gotta Get Up" sums it up completely and has become one of my Monday Morning favorites.
While the thought of sleeping in (for one more day) is indeed appealing, it is not realistic. Instead, consider Monday as a new beginning (similar to the New Year). For inspiration, create strategic goals on Sunday evening and commit to treating yourself to dinner, ice cream, or even an outing on Monday evening. For example, I awake happily anticipating a visit to Whole Foods or Wegmans, keeping me encouraged throughout the day.
For the office, use your newly developed strategic goals to limit mindless routine; recommend a new proposal. Perhaps your supervisor has considered a similar idea but required solutions for its implementation. Write a brief pitch and present it to your team. Your suggestion can be as simple as a new format or enhancing the communication process to increase productivity.
The greatest crime in the world is not developing your potential. When you do what you do best, you are helping not only yourself, but the world. - Roger Williams
